Since Malta joined as an EU member state in May 2004, such members hip is offering Malta-based businesses instant access to the EU’s internal market of over 500 million people, further widening the opportunities for Maltese businesses to trade within and even outside the EU market. Businesses subjected to the relevant regulatory Authorities in Malta are now able to penetrate EU markets without having to repeat costly and time-consuming compliance procedures and/or licensing in each EU and non-EU country it seeks to do business in. Businesses have literally gained a “European Passport”.
